Annual Regatta day in the dock 1896Two drownings when a cobble capsized in 1886 and several unsurprising accidents involving spectators during the 90's caused this event to be abandoned. Photograph, Aug 13 1896Seaham's first regatta was held on 30th July 1835

Bicycle race in Seaham, location not known but possibly Seaham Flower Show at Seaham Hall grounds which from the mid 1850s held cycling and track events.

George Holley was born in Seaham Harbour on 25th November, 1885. He played for Seaham White Star before joining Sunderland in 1904.He played for England between 1909 and 1914 and was joint top scorer in 1912..George Holley, who later worked as a Sunderland coach, died in 1942.
Seaham Park? opened 1903 or Green Drive late 20's ?

George Francis, West Indian Test cricketer (fast bowler) played for Seaham Harbour in 1929,30 and 31? At this time SH Cricket club could attract crowds of 7000 to a game.Born in Barbados in 1897 died there in 1942.

Regatta day in the dock. An annual event during the !880's and 90's it featured cobble, canoe and the trimmers shovel race shown here among the events.Photograph Aug 13 1896.

The Ball Alley, sometimes used as a meeting place for men in dispute with management but more often the scene of heavy gambling during handball matches. A chalk line was drawn across the wall one yard high on the east side of the wall (the one shown). Disused after 1930 when the surface deteriorated. Photograph c 1950.

Seaham Harbour Swimming Club in 1880 (boys), it would be forty years before women were allowed to join.Front left is James Temple Wightman who was swimming instructor for many years.Born in 1844 in Newcastle, in 1881 he was lodging at 25 Church St, probably single, by 1891 he was married with a daughter and living above his own Chemist/Druggist business at 59 Church St. .
