Fawcett Street c1950
This photograph is definitely post 1948 as the old Sunderland Gas Company Office on the left shows Northern Gas Board. Gas was Nationalised in 1948 hence the name board. Note the adjoining new Binns store on the left which opened in 1953 but the East side is still surrounded by hoardings awaiting development.Following a realignment of the points on the corner the "Points Boys"metal hut has gone, this was taken to Hendon Docks for the "Tip Man" when tipping was allowed direct into the sea.(a trip I made many times).
