Christ Church 1908. Christ Church is situated where Stockton Rd joins Burdon Rd to become Ryhope Rd. Built in 1864 it was an Anglican church until the 1990s when declared redundant. This magnificent Grade 2 listed building was then acquired by the Sikh Community and adapted as a temple. Renamed as Ashbrooke Hall it is now popular with all faiths. The spire needs costly repairs and final decisions about this have to be made. Info Len Charlton.

Sunderland Museum 1900. Sunderland Museum dates from 1852 but it was moved to this new building at at the top of Borough Rd in 1876. It incorporated a large glass enclosed Winter Garden at the rear which ran into Burdon Park. This was demolished after WW2 serious bomb damage but replaced in 2001. For many years the building included the town library but this is now in adjacent Fawcett St. Info Len Charlton.
