Station Hotel (Tate's), Stoney Lane.
The Hylton Southwick and Monkwearmouth Railway started in 1871 primarily to handle mineral traffic and this hotel must date from about then. The railway was acquired by N.E.R in 1883 but its Newcastle to Sunderland line via Monkwearmouth already ran to the east of Southwick and over time the Southwick line ceased to function.
