General Havelock, (Hogan's), Stoney Lane. General Havelock became famous for the relief of Cawnpore during the 1857 Indian Mutiny. He was born at Ford Hall in Sunderland the son of wealthy shipowners and after his death his statue was placed in Mowbray Park. His name is remembered in several streets and buildings as here in Stoney Lane which led from the Alexandra Bridge to Southwick Green. Photo Norman Kirtlan, information Len Charlton.
