Tentland, Seaburn.
The tents were privately owned and local householders could gain a small income from hiring out or storing tents during the summer.

Seaburn in 1931. This clearly shows the junction of the original Seaburn promenade with iron railings and the later concrete extensions which eventually reached the outskirts of Whitburn (outside the photo). At high tide the sea reached the entire length of this old promenade and a walk "along the prom" could result in getting wet, getting soaked or getting into serious danger. In rough weather there were always some prepared to bet they could go the full length but in storms it was clearly impossible even to start and people would gather on the cliff path above just to watch the show.
