High seas at Seaburn in the early 1930s. The waves are spectacular in this picture but the people on the prom are quite safe, apart from getting a bit damp from the spray. Notice that the waves are thrown backwards and away from them, which is due to the design of the wall below the railings. Look closely at this wall on the right hand side of photo 062 and you will see that there is a large bulge at the top to deflect the waves. Caption from Malcolm Fraser.
