Princess Elizabeth visits Sd shipyard.

The shipyard was Sir James Laing at Sunderland and the oil tanker being launched was built for the Anglo Iranian Oil Company Ltd later to become British Petroleum. The ship was called British Princess and Princess Elizabeth (later The Queen) officiated at the launch which was on 30th April 1946. The photo appeared the day after in The Daily Express. The caption read "Shipyard curtsy in the rain. The knight offers the Princess his umbrella and the workman doffs his cap." Photograph and info, Marion Atkinson
