Pallion Station. The Sunderland Durham railway was run by small trains ( often 2 old coaches). There were many spurs and junctions for freight and coal along the route and the stations included Millfield, Pallion, South Hylton, Penshaw, Rainton Coxgreen and Leamside. For a period LNER used a push/pull train with a tiny tank engine between the coaches. The passenger line closed c1960 but the new Metro now uses the old route as far South Hylton with 2 new stops at Park Lane and University.
