Watchtower in Lisburn Tce. The Watchtower was built in 1776 by a John Biss of Deptford Hall to check ship movements on a stretch of the river just above Wearmouth Bridge. Prior knowledge of ship arrivals was very useful to traders waiting for goods. It was probably of little value however as it became known as Biss's Folly and was demolished in 1903.

Railway crossing in Lisburn Ave. The Hansom Cab is parked over the crossing while onlookers gather to watch the photographer (who is perhaps the cab driver) take this photo. The two ladies are surely posed but what about the man on extreme right ?
