Car built at Seaham Harbour Engine Works. ( S.H.E.W. ) ( Foundry Road site ) Powered by a 2000cc engine, it was chain driven with two forward gears and capable of 25 miles per hour. Built for the 6th Marquess in 1907.
Rebuilt in the 1960s it is now at Beamish Museum.
The timberyard was originally opened by Mann Brothers in the mid 1850's, taken over by Robert Trotter in the 70's and then Joseph Elgey probably in 1901.
The yard ceased trading in 1985 and is I believe currently owned by the Dock Company.
