Numbers 16 (in foreground) to 11 North Railway Street, looking towards the sea c1950. Photograph c1950 though possibly early 1930s.
Businesses in these premises over the previous 100 years included, a watchmaker, fruiterers, confectioners, clothier, draper, and an ale and porter bottler.
Walter Willson's at the junction of Henry and North Railway Streets began trading sometime between 1894 and 1902 and continued until the shop was demolished in the slum clearance of the mid 30's. As E Burley, fruiter is next door at 31 N Railway St. this photograph must have been taken between 1930 and 1934, probably just prior to demolition.
