Russian 36 pounder captured at the battle of Sebastapol. Presented to Seaham by Queen Victoria in 1858 in recognition of the bravery of the town's Volunteer Brigade. Taken to be melted down for the war effort by over zealous council officials during WW2. How Seaham lost this cannon which commemorated the outstanding efforts of the men of Seaham and the Londonderry family when other towns kept dozens of anonymous guns beggars belief....... but maybe not.
