Dawdon Crossings at the northern end of Princess Road c1970s, Closed to traffic for many years, it has now been closed or is about to be closed to pedestrians. This right of way, known as the "Old Town Road" even as early as 1850 appears on the Seaham map c1841/3 ( see SEAHAM/MAPS) and while it certainly dates back to the 1830s it is highly likely that it even pre-dates the town of Seaham and was a right of way from the ancient village of Dalton le Dale to what is now the Seaham Dock area and the beaches to the north. Hopefully the Dawdon action group will succeed in their efforts to keep this pedestrian route open.
