Landlord Thomas Chilton was nicknamed Nicky Nack Chiltern because of the huge collection of gadgets and artefacts from around the world, displayed in his pub iin 1834. It was named the Braddyll after Col T R G Braddyll who built the railway ( which ran right by this pub ) from his S Hetton Colliery to Seaham Dock.
Thomas Chilterns Brewery in Lord St (behind the Braddyll) owned 12 pubs and inns, 8 of these in Seaham,
Northumberland Arms, Marlborough Inn, Braddyll Arms,Londonderry Arms, Lord Byron, Castlereagh Hotel,
New Seaham Inn.
