Seaham Lifeboat "Howard D" On Nov 28th 1962 just 11 days after the George Elmy overturned with the loss of 9 lives the Howard D arrived at Seaham. She was a a single engined, 35'6", Liverpool class boat which had been built in 1937 for the St Helier Lifeboat Station. She served at Seaham until Feb 13th 1963 without being called out on service.

The Howard D sails out from Seaham Harbour. The Howard D, a reserve boat was stationed at Seaham for a few weeks until a permament craft arrived, it was brought down from Scotland by 76 year old V M Wyndham Quinn, R N deputy chairman of the management committee of the R.N.L.I.
