Old Beach and lighthouse before 1899 This lighthouse was built in 1836 to replace a wooden lighthouse which had burnt down in the same year. This new structure had a revolving white light above and a red one below. William Fairless who had fought with Lord Londonderry against Napoleon was the first keeper. The interior of this lighthouse was burnt out in 1856 and restored by 1857
