View from the south bank of the Dene looking north to what is now Dene House Road. Exact location can be seen in next image. Seaham's first gasworks built by Henry Hall Smith, a North Terrace chemist, supplied the town from 1844 until 1873 when it was bought by the new Seaham Gas Company who closed it down. S G Co had built or begun building a large new gasworks opposite the Candlish Bottleworks as early as 1866.
