In 1945, Frank Watt, secretary of Seaham Harbour Swimming Club left to form a breakaway club at Dawdon Pit Pond. By 1951 the pool was equipped to Olympic standards Photograph probably late 1980s. Nanny Goat's Path to the Blast Beach indicated in yellow at top left, pool bottom right.

Olympic standard diving boards at Dawdon Colliery Pool, "Pit Pond" 1950s? There were fixed boards at 5, 7 1/2 and 10 metres. The pool equipped to Olympic standards was much in demand for national and international events. In 1956 the British Olympic Diving Team was chosen following a week of trials at Dawdon
