The Western end of the ancient village of Dalton le Dale around 1900, possibly earlier showing St Andrews Church (1180), the Sexton's Cottage (built?, demolished?), Rose Cottage demolished 1912 and Hornsby's Farm demolished in 1905. An early reference to the village was made by thr Venerable Bede in 700AD though this sheltered dene was probably inhabited very much earlier
