This photograph taken around 1928 shows all the teeming tenements of the 1800's, Irish Back Street etc before any of these streets were demolished in the 1930's
Candlish Bottleworks shortly after closure around 1928. The town's second gasworks at centre built in 1873 produced gas until 1936 then became a storage facility for Sunderland Gas Co. Fenwick Row is in front of the Bottleworks and Gallery Row above. Does anyone know the buildings at top centre on the edge of the allotments?
Electricity came to Seaham in 1927 with Seaham UDC's Electricity Co. which by 1935 had over 5000 customers.
Pilot Cottages and Pilot Row top centre, Ropery Walk and Duckyard top right(the Duckyard is the walled yard immediately left of school and was originally the pottery) demolished 10 Sept 1934,the actual pottery was destroyed by fire, date not known.
