Ryhope Hall situated behind the Albion, built around 1675, the tower was added later. Sir Frank Nicholson gave it to The Boys Club Assoc around 1935. It had been an old posting station and was known as the Boar's Head, probably because of the coat of arms of the Booth family above the doorway (3 boars heads erect) It was probably here that Robert Drummond the highwayman who lived for a time at Sd and operated on the Stockton Rd stabled his horse and drank his ale before setting off to work. He was hung at Tyburn in 1730
Stories also associate the hall with smuggling
