Leaning out of an upstairs window in Ryhope Street, the photographer catches one of the first fifteen Brush cars of the Sunderland District Tramways fleet as it approaches on its way from Houghton to Grangetown. The girls leaning out of the windows of the 'Prince of Wales' are taking a keen interest as they too are captured for posterity. Typical of the time, the street has a mixture of pubs and chapels, two of each in this view. If you look at picture RY 044 you will see that there's another chapel to the right of the gas lamp.
