South Hetton contingent of the National Fire Service in 1942, behind the garage on Front Street where their appliance was kept. My father, John Sheldon Wesley Clark, is crouching at the right end of the front row; I suspect that the left hand one of the two in 'civvies' is George Stewart, who was a bricklayer down the pit. Like my father, George became a Church Warden and then Church Warden Emeritus at South Hetton Holy Trinity Church. .Photograph and caption from Sheldon Clark.

Players and officials of South Hetton Rovers AFC (or possibly South Hetton Colliery Welfare AFC) after the team had won both the Division 2 Championship of the Houghton & District League and the Murton A M Cup in the season 1955/6. My father, John Sheldon Wesley Clark is seated at the extreme left of the picture, next to a Mr Beresford, I believe. Although the faces of most of the rest of the officials are familiar, the only other one I can name is Sammy Mitford, who is standing towards the right, wearing an overcoat and scarf. I think the player standing third from the right was called Whittaker and came from Hetton Downs. I have no knowledge of the other men's identities. The shot seems to have been taken at the Colliery Welfare Ground, behind Hawthorn Terrace (as it then was), near where the cricket club now has its clubhouse. .Photograph and caption from Sheldon Clark.
