South Hetton, East Front Street. This view is of the Easington to Wardley road (later A182), with what was, after nationalisation of the mines, to become the Colliery Manager's house (South Lodge?) prominent on the left and the Colliery Offices opposite. The manager's house was subsequently sold to a Surveyor of Customs & Excise and later became a residential home for retired people. The camera is pointing west-north-westward. Visible beyond the telegraph pole are the Miners' Institute, the Stationmaster's House and, seemingly blocking the road, Holy Trinity Church. Caption by Sheldon Clark
