Four Lane Ends, Hetton in the 1920s. This seems to show the Easington to Wardley road (later A182), looking north-westward in the direction of Hetton from the bottom of Pemberton's Bank, a fearsome hill which remained cobbled until at least the 1960s. The tram track laid into the road led from Easington Lane clock and War Memorial to Sunderland via (I think) Philadelpha and Herrington Burn. The business premises on the right was a hairdresser's in the 1960s.
