St Andrew's Church, It is known as "The Inside Out Church"
It was built at Stockton in the late 1890s in a dirty smokey area, as Blackhall just had a tin church the Church Council bought the old church for £6,000 and employed a firm to take it down brick by brick and transport it to Blackhall. The Colliery Manager gave the Church a piece of land in the Crescent, more or less in the centre of the village, with all the brickwork and stonework being blackened, the builder decided it would be better to put the dirty brickwork on the inside of the cavity walls and have the stonework cleaned for around the windows it still looks like a new church today. Basillio Peroni who owned the shop at Blackhall Rocks The family came to Blackhall about 1914 when they built Middle Street Shops, the name on the ice Cream cart Was the Father Basillio Peroni There were two sons Leo and "Evoi" spelt the last one wrong. Iwould think the photo would be about 1930s as they never started Building the Council houses at Blackhall Rocks until 1925-30 The shop Basillio had with his son Leo had an Ice Cream Parlour and a Billiard and Snooker Hall with four Tables, we played in the snooker hall from being 14yrs old.
