Tom Reynolds with the staff at Crimdon Pavillion, we had some great dances in there, we used to get 650 to 700 in the hall from the factories, Dewhurst was one-off the best as my mate and I were invited up to the factory to get measured for a couple of new shirts every year. Murton Colliery Mechanics, used to arrive in 7or 8 Double Deckers, we had workmen's clubs from Stockton and Middlesbrough, they used to bring all the children and have a party in the Dene, some of the parents went back with the children but quite a few stayed the night for a dance, Happy Days. Crimdon Caravan Children's Playground and Paddling Pool. about early 70s "I was sent for one summer afternoon, the report was that four drunken youths were throwing empty beer bottle into the paddling pool. When I arrived at the pool these four lads were still there throwing the bottles into the pool, I shouted what do you think you're up to, they just told me what to do so I threw two of them into the pool, the other two started to run away so I caught them and threw them in as well. I said you can come out when you have picked up all the broken glass, at the same time I told one of the lads who worked at Crimdon to drain the pool as children would cut themselves if they went in. I just sat on the fence for about 2 hours then one of these yobs said he had had enough, so when he come to get out I just thumped him, down he went again, I was there for 4 hours by that time the pool was nearly drained so I gave them a brush each and made them sweep it clean. just as I was about to let them go the police arrived, I explained what it was all about and they locked them up in Peterlee police cells. I never ever saw them again. Bob. Happy Days." Photograph and caption from Bob Williams
