This postcard of the harbour at South Shields dates from about 1905. The trucks in the foreground are full of stone from the Trow Rocks quarry, near the present Gypsy's Green Stadium at the south end of the promenade. The stone is being shipped across the river to repair the breached north pier, where the crane can be seen working in the background. The 'Marsden Rattler' pub (now renamed) was built on the line of the quarry railway but the real 'Rattler' line was further south. Caption from Malcolm Fraser.
